The course
The 10K starts on Portland Street, loops out past Old Trafford's football and cricket grounds, and returns to finish on Deansgate. It is flat and fast with live music and crowds at nearly every turn.
Where to stay
Stay in Manchester city centre around Deansgate or the Northern Quarter for a short walk to the start, finish and Event Village on Peter Street.
Getting there
Manchester Airport (MAN) links to the city centre by train in about 20 minutes or the Metrolink tram in around 45 minutes.
That weekend
A city-centre Event Village hosts bib pick-up and post-race entertainment; the same weekend features a half marathon and junior runs.
Sample 4-day trip
Arrive, explore, race, then head home. A proper weekend, not a rushed fly-by.
-
Day 1: Arrive
Most UK runners arrive by train into Manchester. From Manchester Airport (MAN), train or Metrolink reaches the centre in 20–45 minutes. Public transport works well.
Check into Deansgate or the Northern Quarter . The Event Village on Peter Street handles bib pick-up.
-
Day 2: Shakedown Run and Explore the City
Collect your bib at the Great Manchester Run Event Village . Europe's biggest 10K fills Portland Street with live music.
Jog an easy shakeout along the canals. Afternoon for Old Trafford tours or Northern Quarter coffee. Early dinner near the start.
-
Day 3: Race Day
Starts on Portland Street, loops past Old Trafford, and finishes on Deansgate. From city-centre hotels, walk to the start.
Afterwards, celebrate in the Northern Quarter. Keep the evening gentle.
-
Day 4: Final Day
If you came by train, rail home from Manchester is the easy exit. Three nights covers Event Village logistics and a calm return.
Flying via MAN works, but rail beats plane for most northern UK runners.
