The course
Starts and finishes near Cardiff Castle and City Hall, looping past the Principality Stadium, Cardiff Bay and Roath Park lake. Flat and fast with roaring crowd support throughout.
Where to stay
Cardiff city centre near the castle keeps you steps from the start; Cardiff Bay is a scenic alternative on the route.
Getting there
Cardiff Airport is around 40 minutes by shuttle-and-train; most UK runners arrive by rail straight into Cardiff Central, a few minutes' walk from the start.
That weekend
A city-centre expo precedes race day; the weekend suits Cardiff Castle, Principality Stadium tours and the bay's waterfront bars.
Sample 4-day trip
Arrive, explore, race, then head home. A proper weekend, not a rushed fly-by.
-
Day 1: Arrive
Most UK runners should take the train to Cardiff Central : the start is a few minutes' walk from the station. Cardiff Airport (CWL) exists, but the shuttle-and-train combo takes around 40 minutes and is awkward with kit.
Check into a city-centre hotel near the castle . Keep the evening easy: this is one of the UK's best-supported halves.
-
Day 2: Shakedown Run and Explore the City
Collect your bib at the Cardiff Half expo in the city centre. Jog an easy shakeout through Bute Park or along the bay.
Afternoon for Cardiff Castle or Principality Stadium tours . Pin the bib and eat an early dinner. Race morning is walkable from most central hotels.
-
Day 3: Race Day
Starts and finishes near Cardiff Castle and City Hall. From city-centre hotels, walk to the start. The loop passes the Principality Stadium and Cardiff Bay with roaring crowds.
Afterwards, celebrate in the bay or back in the centre. Keep the evening gentle.
-
Day 4: Final Day
If you came by train, rail home from Cardiff Central is the easy exit. Three nights covers expo, race, and a calm return without same-day travel.
Flying via CWL works, but train beats plane for most UK runners on this one.
