The route

Berlin Half Marathon is 21.1 km (13.1 miles). Start line on Strasse des 17. Juni between the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column; flat central loop past Museum Island and Potsdamer Platz, finishing through the Brandenburg Gate. Wide boulevards and a SuperHalfs member — confirm the current course map on the Generali Berlin Half site.

Start time

For 4 Apr 2027, inline skaters 09:15, wheelchair and handbike 09:55, runners from 10:05 in several waves. Confirm wave times on the official race-day page — they can shift.

Course elevation

A flat, fast city half: low elevation change on wide central roads, which is why it shows up on PB and SuperHalfs lists. It is not a hilly route. Confirm the current course profile on the official map.

Entry fee

Indicative entry is £65 per runner. Confirm the current bib price on the official site; ballot, charity, and tour prices can differ. Indicative half bib on this page, not a travel package. Ballot, charity, and tour prices differ — confirm the current Generali Berlin Half fee on the official registration page.

Where to stay

Mitte keeps you close to start, finish and sights; Charlottenburg offers quieter mid-range hotels near the Tiergarten.

Getting there

Berlin Brandenburg (BER) is 30-45 minutes to the centre by the FEX express train or S-Bahn; the start is a short U-Bahn ride within Mitte.

That weekend

A large expo and 'Breakfast Run' feature on the weekend; nearby are the Reichstag, East Side Gallery and Museum Island.

Who it's for

Review in one line: a flat, well-organised 21.1 km through central Berlin with a Brandenburg Gate finish — strong for first destination halves and PB hunters who want Major atmosphere without September marathon crowds. Pros: SuperHalfs status, usually kinder April weather, easier entry than the Berlin Marathon, Mitte hotels walkable to the start. Cons: still a big field with wave pens and expo queues; less of a party than a scenic wine-country half; hotels spike on race weekend. Skip it if you only want trail views or a tiny local race.

Sample 4-day trip

Arrive, explore, race, then head home. A proper weekend, not a rushed fly-by.

  1. Day 1: Arrive

Fly into Berlin Brandenburg (BER). FEX or S-Bahn reaches the centre in about 30 minutes. Public transport is excellent. Book a private transfer for late flights or heavy kit.

Check into Mitte or Charlottenburg . Keep the evening easy: Germany's biggest half finishes under the Brandenburg Gate.

  2. Day 2: Shakedown Run and Explore the City

Collect your bib at the Generali Berlin Half Marathon expo . Join the Breakfast Run if your wave allows, or jog an easy Tiergarten shakeout.

Keep the rest of the day low-key: Museum Island exteriors or coffee in Prenzlauer Berg. Early dinner and an early night.

  3. Day 3: Race Day

From Mitte, many runners walk or take a short U-Bahn hop . Arrive early for bag drop and crowded pens. The finish through the Brandenburg Gate is the headline.

Afterwards, a long lunch nearby beats cross-town sightseeing. Save walking tours for tomorrow if legs allow.

  4. Day 4: Final Day

If the flight allows, brunch in Prenzlauer Berg or the East Side Gallery at recovery pace. FEX back to BER is straightforward, but leave margin.

Three nights covers expo, race, and a calm exit without limping through security.

What drives the cost

Entry is modest next to the Berlin Marathon; the UK flight is usually cheap short-haul. Race-weekend hotels in Mitte are the lever that moves the total. Three nights covers expo, the Breakfast Run, and a Sunday race without a same-day airport dash. Stay in Charlottenburg on a good U-Bahn line if Mitte quotes sting. Berlin walks well, so paid tours are optional: cut the activity line first if the hotel is the shock.
