The course

Starts in North Sydney, crosses the Sydney Harbour Bridge early and finishes at the Sydney Opera House. A scenic but genuinely rolling course with a punchy climb up Oxford Street.

Where to stay

Circular Quay and The Rocks put you beside the finish and harbour; North Sydney or Milsons Point are handy for the start.

Getting there

From Sydney Airport (SYD) the Airport Link train reaches the city in about 15 minutes; the North Sydney start is a short additional train or ferry hop.

That weekend

Collect your bib at the marathon expo, run a shakeout around the Botanic Garden, then climb the Harbour Bridge, ferry to Manly and visit Bondi Beach.

Sample 4-day trip

Arrive, explore, race, then head home. A proper weekend, not a rushed fly-by.

  1. Day 1: Arrive

Fly into Sydney (SYD). The Airport Link train reaches the city in about 15 minutes. Public transport is excellent. Book a private transfer for late arrivals or heavy kit.

Check into Circular Quay, The Rocks, or North Sydney . Keep the evening easy: this is a four-night World Major trip.

  2. Day 2: Shakedown Run and Explore the City

Collect your bib at the Sydney Marathon expo . Jog an easy shakeout around the Royal Botanic Garden with harbour views.

Partners can book Harbour Bridge experiences . Runners: early dinner, kit laid out. The North Sydney start means an extra train or ferry hop on race morning.

  3. Day 3: Race Day

The start is in North Sydney; the course crosses the Harbour Bridge early and finishes at the Opera House. Check race-day transport and arrive early. The Oxford Street climb is the main sting.

Celebrate at the Opera House forecourt, then keep the afternoon gentle. Ferries and trains back to your hotel beat another big walk.

  4. Day 4: Final Day

Recovery day: Bondi at a stroll, a harbour coffee, or a coastal walk if legs allow. Four nights gives jet-lagged UK runners room to breathe.

Airport Link back to SYD is quick, but leave margin after a rolling major. A private transfer is easier on marathon legs.
