The course
Starts and finishes in central Tromso around the harbour, running out along the coastal roads with fjord and mountain views under a midnight sun that never sets. Scenic and mostly flat with a couple of gentle rises.
Where to stay
Central Tromso around Storgata and the harbour keeps you walking distance from the start and the city's bars and restaurants.
Getting there
Tromso Airport (TOS) is only about 10-15 minutes from the centre by airport bus or taxi.
That weekend
Collect your bib in the city centre, then ride the Fjellheisen cable car, take a fjord cruise and enjoy the endless Arctic daylight.
Sample 4-day trip
Arrive, explore, race, then head home. A proper weekend, not a rushed fly-by.
-
Day 1: Arrive
Fly into Tromsø (TOS). The airport bus or a taxi reaches the centre in 10–15 minutes. Public transport is simple here. Book a private transfer for late arrivals.
Check into central Tromsø near the harbour . Arctic daylight at midnight starts tonight: eye mask recommended.
-
Day 2: Shakedown Run and Explore the City
Collect your bib in the city centre ( Midnight Sun Marathon info ). Jog an easy waterfront shakeout in daylight that never really ends.
Ride the Fjellheisen cable car or book a fjord cruise while legs are fresh. Rest in the afternoon: the marathon starts around midnight.
-
Day 3: Race Day
Treat the daylight hours like a normal taper day: light meals, feet up, kit ready. The marathon starts around midnight under the Arctic sun.
From central hotels, walk to the start. After 42 km in perpetual daylight, celebrate nearby and skip a cross-town trek. Fjord views are the story.
-
Day 4: Final Day
Sleep in, then a slow harbour coffee or fjord cruise if energy returns. Airport bus back to TOS is quick, but leave margin after a midnight marathon.
Three nights turns Tromsø into an Arctic adventure with a world-northernmost marathon attached.
