The course

Run on dirt tracks through the malaria-free Entabeni Game Reserve, sharing the savannah with lion, elephant and giraffe. A rugged trail course with big climbs, monitored by rangers and helicopters.

Where to stay

Accommodation is in the reserve's safari lodges, usually booked as part of an organised race package.

Getting there

Fly into Johannesburg (OR Tambo), then transfer roughly 3-3.5 hours by road to Entabeni, typically arranged by the tour operator.

That weekend

The package weekend bundles game drives and a pre-race safari briefing; extend with Kruger or a Johannesburg stopover.

Sample 4-day trip

Arrive, explore, race, then head home. A proper weekend, not a rushed fly-by.

  1. Day 1: Arrive

Fly into Johannesburg (JNB). International runners must book the organiser tour package : it includes the ~3–3.5 hour road transfer to Entabeni. There is no public transport to the reserve.

Treat day one as the start of a safari package, not a DIY city break. Hotels in Johannesburg may feature on longer itineraries before the coach out.

  2. Day 2: Shakedown Run and Explore the City

Transfer to Entabeni per your package schedule . The weekend bundles game drives and a pre-race safari briefing: attend everything.

If you have a Johannesburg buffer day, use it for city or Soweto tours before the long road transfer. Lay out trail shoes: this is bushveld, not road.

  3. Day 3: Race Day

Run on dirt tracks through Entabeni with rangers and helicopters monitoring wildlife. Manage effort on the climbs: lion, elephant, and giraffe share the savannah.

Celebrate at your lodge. Transfers and game drives run on set times: plan around the package, not independent taxis.

  4. Day 4: Final Day

Coach back toward Johannesburg per your package. Four nights here reflects the race-weekend core of a longer safari stay.

Budget for the full tour package, lodge nights, and transfers from JNB , not a standalone half-marathon trip.
