The route

The route starts and finishes inside the historic 1928 Olympic Stadium, running along the Amstel, through Vondelpark and the canal ring. Pancake-flat 42.2 km and reliably fast.

Entry fee

Indicative entry is £90 per runner. Confirm the current bib price on the official site; ballot, charity, and tour prices can differ. The weekend total (hotel, travel, extras) sits in the estimator, not in the bib price.

Where to stay

The Museum Quarter and Oud-Zuid are walkable to the stadium start; the central canal belt is lively and well connected by tram.

Getting there

From Schiphol (AMS) a direct train reaches Amsterdam Centraal in around 15 minutes, then a short tram to the Olympic Stadium.

That weekend

The Sports Expo is near the stadium; add a Vondelpark shakeout, then the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and an evening canal cruise.

Sample 4-day trip

Arrive, explore, race, then head home. A proper weekend, not a rushed fly-by.

  1. Day 1: Arrive

Fly into Schiphol (AMS). A direct NS train reaches Amsterdam Centraal in about 15 minutes. Public transport is the default. Book a private transfer for late arrivals or groups.

Check into Oud-Zuid, the Museum Quarter, or the canal belt . The Olympic Stadium start is a short tram ride away.

  2. Day 2: Shakedown Run and Explore the City

Collect your bib at the TCS Amsterdam Marathon Sports Expo near the stadium. Jog an easy shakeout in Vondelpark: flat paths and shade.

Afternoon for Rijksmuseum tickets or a canal-side wander. Pin the bib and eat an early, carb-focused dinner.

  3. Day 3: Race Day

Start and finish inside the 1928 Olympic Stadium. From Oud-Zuid, many runners walk or tram. The course is pancake flat along the Amstel and through Vondelpark.

Afterwards, celebrate with stroopwafels and a simple meal nearby. Keep the afternoon gentle: canals beat another long walk.

  4. Day 4: Final Day

If the flight allows, one more canal stroll or Van Gogh tickets at recovery pace. Train back to Schiphol is quick, so leave a buffer anyway.

Three nights turns Amsterdam into a proper marathon city break, not a rushed weekend.
